Congressman Joe Cunningham Receives Endorsement from
League of Conservation Voters
June 10th, 2019 | Charleston, SC - Congressman Joe Cunningham (SC-1) was endorsed today by the leading environmental advocacy organization in the country, the League of Conservation Voters. The endorsement is another sign of how effective Cunningham has been since taking office on issues related to protecting the Lowcountry coastline and economy.
“Joe Cunningham has distinguished himself in Congress as a champion for our coasts,” said Tiernan Sittenfeld, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the LCV Action Fund. “He has demonstrated incredible leadership in a short time, and South Carolina families can count on him to protect their health and way of life. We are thrilled to endorse him for reelection because we need his voice in Congress leading the charge against risky offshore drilling proposals.”
Cunningham has been an advocate for environmental protection throughout his career, noting that these issues first inspired him to run for office.
“Our coastline is the heart and soul of the Lowcountry and our economy,” said Cunningham. “Protecting our beaches and waterways was one of the main reasons I decided to run for office in the first place. While big oil companies continue to do everything they can to move forward with offshore drilling and seismic airgun blasting off the South Carolina coast, I’ve brought Democrats and Republicans together to advance legislation to ban both. I vowed to do everything in my power to protect our coastline and tackle coastal flooding and I’m delivering on my promise. I’m honored to receive the support of the League of Conservation Voters and will continue to put in the work to ensure the Lowcountry coastline and economy remain strong for generations to come."
